The FPS (Fine Particle Sampler) is a sampling/dilution system allowing the measurement of fine and ultra-fine particles. It has been mainly developped for combustion aerosol sampling.
_
Its operating principle is based on a nozzle supplied with compressed air. It is characterized by a neck where the air flow induces a depression by Venturi effect. This depression is used to fetch the sample to be diluted.
_
This system is passive, i.e. there is no control loop to set the dilution ratio (it is however tunable by opening or closing valves providing dilution air flow). FPS is totally equipped with pressure and temperature probes which allow every seconds to precisely compute the dilution ratio even if the sampling conditions vary..
