Diluted atmosphere exposure system

(c) CERTAM

Rodents exposure to diluted aerosols in physiological conditions is made possible with specific exposure cages. Animals are not anaesthetized and not tied, hence the fonctionnality of cardio-respiratory apparatus is normal.

Internal aerodynamic modelisation (Fluent software)

(c) CERTAM Exposure cages are constituted of two parts:

  • A mixing zone room where recirculating events occur
  • An exposure place where aerosol flow is laminar

(c) CERTAM

An atmosphere dilution and sampling system

C ERTAM have an animal housing facility located just beneath the engine test cells.
Freshly emitted engine exhausts are sampled and diluted to concentrations similar to those observed onboard in vehicles. Then, the aerosol is regulated in relative hygrometry and is leaded trough the exposure cages.

Physiological studies

  • Day per dayelectrocardiography tracking from each animal before, after and during exposure.
  • Respiratory physiology evaluation with plethysmography
  • Cardiac, pulmonary, hepatic and renal toxicity
